LUSAKA WOMEN IN PEACEFUL GENDER PROTEST
Women from different walks of life gathered outside the Lusaka High Court to register their displeasure at the rising number of gender violence cases.
The women were particularly protesting Women dressed in black clothes carried placards along the Independence Avenue and proceededc to present a petition to Gender Minister Inonge Wina for the authorities to address the cases of murder and violence against women.
The women were particularly concerned about gruesome murders of women in Lusaka.
Ardent gender activist Sara Longwe said the women movement was worried about the security of women.

WEB2.0 LEARNING IN LUSAKA
PARTICIPANTS DURING THE WEB2.0 LEARNING PROGRAMME AT THE INSTITUTE FOR IN-SERVICE TRAINING TRUST IN LUSAKA. HERE, THE PARTICIPANTS, WHO WERE DRAWN FROM DIFFERENT INSTITUTIONS ARE UPDATING THEIR BLOGS AFTER LEARNING HOW TO DEVELOP AND OPERATE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS SUCH AS TWITTER, FACEBOOK, BLOGGER, WORDPRESS, LIKEDIN AND OTHERS. PLEASE READ ON TO GO THROUGH THE SUMMARY OF COURSE SCHEDULE.
1. SOCIAL MEDIA FOR DEVELOPMENT
1.1. INTRODUCTION TO WEB2.0 AND SOCIAL MEDIA
This is an introduction to web2.0. The segment took participants to understand the basic concepts of Web 2.0, social media, user generated content and social networking. It also identifies four main types of social media uses.
1.2. SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES AND COMMUNITIES
This phase took participants into the definitions and understanding of how social networking sites and online communities work. It also gives people an overview of the strategic advantages they can offer to an organization.
1.3. PRIVACY, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND ACCESS TO SOCIAL MEDIA
This lesson helped participants with an overview of privacy, security and intellectual property discussions centred around the uses of social media and the challenges they present.
1.4. CURRENT ISSUES AND NEW IDEAS
This lesson described how Web services might develop or change in the future realising the influence of mobile phone usage on the design of new social media applications.
The session also illustrated the concept of Geo-tagging and internationalization and localization issues.

2. SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS AND SERVICES
2.1. GROUP PRODUCTIVITY AND COLLABORATION TOOLS
The session discussed some commonly used social media tools and services. It also looks at a variety of situations in which they are applied by way of highlighting how they can support work groups and collaboration.
2.2. HOSTED SERVICES
This lesson defined hosted services and installed tools. It explains the advantages and disadvantages of using them, while providing guidance on how to identify appropriate tools or services for different needs.
2.3. SUBSCRIPTIONS, FEEDS AND SYNDICATION
This lesson describes what content feeds are and provides guidance on how to syndicate your own content so others can easily find and use it. It also explains the use of this knowledge when learning about other tools such as blogs and podcasts.
2.4. TAGGING AND SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
This lesson illustrates the concept and purpose of tagging and social bookmarking and explains how they work within social media services.
2.5. BLOGGING AND MICRO-BLOGGING
This lesson describes blogging and microblogging and illustrates how these tools can be used strategically in a project or organization.
2.6. ONLINE VIDEO AND IMAGE SHARING
This lesson introduces the basic concepts related to producing, uploading and sharing digital video and photography on the web. It also illustrates the most popular services and features to make the most of online visual media.
2.7. PODCASTING AND ONLINE RADIO
This lesson presents the concepts behind podcasting and online radio, describing the basics of recording and uploading high quality audio content on the web.

A football fans leads other supporters during the drumming up of support for Zambia along Freedom Way in Lusaka.
The football supporters caused heavy traffic along the street. Business came to a stand still because some workers wanted to catch a glimpse of the proceedings. Many people are dressed in Zambian national colours.
Zambia faces Ghana in the semi final stage of the African Cup of Nations.

Presidential Salute
President Michael Sata has returned to Lusaka after attending the African Union Summit in Ethiopia.
Here, Service Chiefs salute the President as he takes off in a chopper from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (formerly Lusaka International Airport) for State House.
He arrived on the Presidential Challenger luxury jet.
